Poller Heimatmuseum

The museum's roots reach back to 2008. Back then the Therhag family, who ran the "Zum Jägerhof" inn, pointed local historian Hans Burgwinkel to an old text by the historian Krudewig describing a walk from Deutz to Poll and on to the Jägerhof. Burgwinkel republished the piece and, in response to many enquiries, added his own commentary. Bit by bit this grew into a collection of several thousand historical images and documents – the oldest item dating from the 16th century. That same year the virtual exhibition went online as a website. The whole project was set in motion by the Poller Maigeloog, a group devoted to nurturing local traditions. The former "Zum Jägerhof" inn gave the museum its name, and its historic tavern sign remains its emblem to this day.

The museum does not stop at the hall walls. Under the title "Markante Punkte am Rheinufer" (notable points along the Rhine bank), more than 110 historically significant spots between Deutz and Poll are marked on boards on site – roughly every 500 metres – with an overview panel at the Poller Fischerhaus near the Sportspark. There are also individual local information boards: the first covers the Poll tornado of 1898 (unveiled on 18 November 2016) and a second the Old Poll Cemetery (15 April 2018). On the outdoor terrace of the Poller Fischerhaus on Weidenweg, a further collection of pictures traces the history of that building.
