Source and nature conservation

The Selbach rises on the western slope of the Mergelsberg — not yet on Cologne soil, but within the municipal area of Bergisch Gladbach, west of Forsbach, a district of Rösrath. From there on the stream stays inside the Königsforst, whose woodlands are designated as a nature reserve.

The stream itself enjoys protection of its own on top of that: it is listed under the number LB 8.08 as a protected landscape feature.

Course and mouth

From the Mergelsberg the Selbach first flows westwards until it almost reaches the north-eastern corner of Rath's built-up fringe. There it turns away and skirts the northern edge of the settlement towards the Mauspfad.

Along its final stretch it runs north alongside that road. Opposite the Erkermühle, north of Rath/Heumar, it finally joins the Flehbach from the left.
