The Fischreiterbrunnen (Fish Rider Fountain) stands on the southern side of Theophanoplatz in Cologne's Zollstock district. Carved from sandstone in 1913, it depicts a boy riding a fish and is a listed monument.

History and endowment

The fountain was created in 1913 on Theophanoplatz to a design by the sculptor Georg Grasegger. It was funded not by the city but by the Rheinisch-Westfälische Bank für Grundbesitz, a property bank that donated the fountain to the square. Today the work is a listed monument.

Design

The sandstone figure shows a boy riding a fish — the motif that gave the fountain its name. Four water spouts sit below the fish. The fountain is positioned on the southern side of Theophanoplatz.
