Did you know?

Since 2004, participants in the Evoke music competitions have had to declare that they are not members of a collecting society such as GEMA or BIEM.

Germany's Oldest Demoparty

Evoke has been held regularly since 1997, which means there is no older demoparty still running in Germany. In 2004 it received support from the City of Cologne's Office of Cultural Affairs for the first time. The office continued this funding in 2006 and 2009.

A Motto for Every Edition

Evoke was among the first parties to set a fixed theme for each year. The location, schedule and program all follow that motto. Examples include "digital playground" (2004), "demoscene space odyssey" (2005) and "Bahnhof" (2006). Many editions have their own invitations, such as the 64k intro "Kings of the Playground" by Equinox for 2004.

Opening Up Beyond the Scene

In 2004, the Evoke Netlabel Night was added, a format in which various netlabels presented themselves live to an audience. This parallel side event was explicitly aimed at people outside the demoscene as well. The organizers revived the concept in 2007 and 2008 under the name Evoke Tracks.

Good to Know About the Music Competitions

Since 2004, anyone entering the music competitions has had to confirm that they are not a member of a collecting society, such as GEMA or BIEM.

Pandemic and Return

Evoke was cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was replaced by the purely virtual event "novoque", followed in 2021 by the virtual replacement "névoke". In 2022, Evoke took place in person again for the first time, at the Abenteuerhallen Kalk.
