The Romano-Germanic Museum (RGM) is the archaeological museum of the city of Cologne. It preserves the material heritage of prehistory and of the Roman and Frankish eras, and also serves as the city's office for archaeological monument conservation.

A window onto Roman times

The award-winning building on Roncalliplatz was conceived as a "window onto Roman times". Its surrounding columns echo the Roman peristyle house beneath it with the Dionysus mosaic, visible even from the square. Inside, ground finds, bridge timbers and a reconstructed travelling carriage tell of the rise of the "city of the Ubii" into the centre of the province of Lower Germania.

Visitor note

During the renovation the museum presents highlights of its collection at the Belgisches Haus near Neumarkt. It is best to check current opening hours in advance.
