Cologne Central Station right by the cathedral is one of Germany's busiest stations. Cologne Bonn Airport lies to the south-east.

The KVB runs the light rail and buses. Cologne is surrounded by a motorway ring; the Rhine is used for inland shipping. The city continues to expand its cycling and public-transport network.
