A Street with a Past
Like Kleine Brinkgasse and Nächelsgasse, Im Stavenhof was one of Cologne's red-light streets. That changed in 1972, when the whole of Cologne was declared a prohibited zone for prostitution.
Pub and Renovation
In 1981, the pub Anno Pief opened in the basement of the building. In the 1990s, the group of buildings underwent a comprehensive renovation, in which the rooms were converted into modern living and office space.
Architecture and Façade
The multi-storey building stands in a continuous row of buildings. Horizontal decorative bands between the floors structure the street-facing façade, while evenly spaced window axes organize it vertically. The tall, rectangular windows are in part framed by decorative brick surrounds and topped with segmental-arch lintels, and further ornamental brickwork can be found around the windows. Larger windows and a side entrance set the ground floor apart from the upper levels. A dark plinth finishes the façade at the bottom.
