What the Facility Offers
The site encompasses a spacious indoor climbing wall with a high ropes course, the Zirkus Ponte Chorelli, rooms for dance, theatre and music, an art studio, an occupational therapy centre, and a bistro. The programme of courses is aimed at children, young people and adults, covering everything from climbing and yoga to circus arts and dance.
Origins and Funding
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the City of Cologne were involved in establishing the project, which is focused on integration and community life in the Chorweiler district. It was made possible only through the voluntary efforts of staff and parents from the local Waldorf school. Ongoing operations are supported by the City of Cologne – through its Office for Children, Youth and Family as well as the Chorweiler Community Centre – and by GAG Immobilien AG, which funds climbing courses for socially disadvantaged children and young people, among other things.
Climbing and Getting Started
Anyone wishing to use the hall independently for climbing must have a knowledge of belaying techniques. Beginners can get started through taster sessions or an introductory course; more advanced courses for adults as well as children's and youth groups are also on offer. Dedicated group formats are available for children's birthday parties, school classes and holiday camps.
