Many titles run in their original version with German subtitles, some additionally in a German-dubbed version. Special screenings and the "Film & Talk" format with invited guests feature regularly on the schedule. For the quality of its programme, the Filmpalette was honoured in 2025 with the BKM top prize as Germany's best cinema programme of 2024; the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW also recognises the venue regularly.

History

The cinema has existed since the 1950s, and the charm of that era is preserved in its "historic" hall. It has been run as an art-house cinema since 1987; the starry-sky ceiling in the auditorium was created by the artist Claudia R. Picht. In February 2004 the venue was completely renovated and modernised, and since May 2007 a second hall plus a foyer with a cinema café have rounded out the offering. The modernisation and expansion were supported by the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.

Halls & facilities

The historic hall seats 68 guests, while the newer hall holds 43. Both halls are on ground level and accessible to wheelchair users; the restrooms are located in the basement. The venue includes a foyer with a cinema café.
