The Rheinpark is a recreational green space on the right bank of the Rhine between Deutz and Mülheim – with sweeping views of Cologne's Old Town. It has been heritage-listed since 1989 and forms part of Cologne's green belt.

History

From 1907, fortress land that had lost its military purpose was turned into public green space. By 1913 a first landscape park had been created to a design by garden director Fritz Encke.

For the 1914 Cologne Werkbund Exhibition the park featured works by renowned architects – including Bruno Taut's “Glass Pavilion”, a “factory” by Walter Gropius and a theatre by Henry van de Velde.
