Gateway to the quarter
The name derives from the Roman road Eigelstein, where graves once bore stone pine cones – which looked to the people of Cologne like acorns ("Eychelsteyne"). Today the gatehouse is a striking landmark of the Eigelstein quarter, one of Cologne's most authentic and lively "Veedel" (neighbourhoods).
