The Virtual City Reconstruction
The depicted Cologne cityscape was developed on the basis of historical film footage, postcards, city maps, drawings, and further archival materials. The result is an animated version of Cologne's city centre through which visitors travel aboard a virtual tram.
The Company Behind the Concept
TimeRide GmbH develops locally rooted historical tourism experiences and, alongside Cologne, operates additional permanent venues in Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, and Kloster Andechs, as well as a mobile format called TimeRide Go! – guided city tours combining mobile VR headsets with live narration. In 2019, the Cologne Tourism Association (KVV) honoured the company with the Mercurius Prize.
