Düxer Bock

A monument and unofficial emblem of Deutz – a bronze billy goat by Gerhard Marcks recalling a quirky local legend.

The Düxer Bock (Deutz Billy Goat) is the unofficial heraldic animal of the right-bank district of Deutz ("Düx"). Since 1964 a monument with a bronze goat by the sculptor Gerhard Marcks has recalled the associated legend.

A legend on four legs

Numerous Deutz clubs and initiatives carry the Düxer Bock in their name or logo. The legend tells – in several versions – of a bizarre neighbourhood dispute and a reconciliatory love story. The monument by Gerhard Marcks keeps the goat visible to this day and is a popular meeting point in the quarter.
