Schwimmbad Rhein-Sommergarten

The grounds are located in the Riehl neighbourhood in northern Cologne, right on the banks of the Rhine. The area was affectionately known among locals as the "Goldene Ecke" ("Golden Corner") and was home to a landlocked swimming pool that closed in 1986.

In 1996, the site was revived as a beer garden under the name "Schwimmbad Rhein-Sommergarten." It is run by the Heller brewery, which also operates Hellers Brauhaus and Hellers Volksgarten in Cologne.

The beer garden serves Hellers Kölsch alongside a selection of other beers. The menu features hearty Cologne-style dishes, salads, and seasonal daily specials. Staff are happy to provide information about allergens upon request.

Right next to the beer garden is a playground. In addition to regular opening days, the venue hosts special events throughout the season. Reservations are not accepted.

The beer garden is easily reached on foot, by bike, or on inline skates along the Rhine riverbank. By subway, take line 18 to the Boltensternstraße stop. By car, follow Niederländer Ufer and park at the Axa high-rise or in front of the youth hostel.

The beer garden is open seasonally, weather permitting, Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m.; Mondays are a rest day. Same-day opening hours may change hour by hour depending on the weather.
