NHN (standard elevation zero)

NHN stands for 'Normalhöhennull', the official height reference system in Germany. Elevations given as 'm above NHN' indicate a point's height in metres above this reference level, which roughly corresponds to mean sea level. It replaced the older reference system Normalnull (NN).
