territorial rule

Landesherrschaft refers to the supreme ruling authority held within the Holy Roman Empire by a prince, ecclesiastical lord or city over a particular territory and its inhabitants. It encompassed sovereign rights such as jurisdiction, taxation and administration. A change of territorial rule meant the transfer of a territory to a new ruler.
