slighted (dismantled/razed)

Slighting (or dismantlement) refers to the systematic demolition of fortresses, city walls, ramparts, or castles. The goal was to permanently render a structure unusable — for instance, after a conquest or by order of a ruler, so that the site could not be defended again. The word has nothing to do with sharpening a blade; it derives from Middle High German 'slīfen' (to drag to the ground, to level).
